Plant of the Month
Ever seen such a vibrant bright red flower? Lychnis chalcedonica (Maltese Cross) is an old favorite, imported from Europe to the American colonies. It is known that Thomas Jefferson had it in his garden.
This perennial loves full sun, is pretty drought tolerant, but appreciates some summer water. Can handle frost and heat (Zones 3-10) and is easy to grow. Just cut back completely in winter.
Not only people appreciate these wonderful flowers, but bees, butterflies, and birds will also be pleased to find Lychnis chalcedonica in your garden. More info |
